Pitt Hands No. 2 Miami First Loss
We did it at WVU in 2007.
We did it at Clemson in 2016.
We did it AGAIN yesterday.
— Pitt Football (@Pitt_FB) November 25, 2017
Pitt earned the first home win over a top-two team in program history Friday when it stunned No. 2 Miami 24-14 at Heinz Field. The Panthers held the previously-unbeaten Hurricanes to just 232 yards of offense in the upset, including a season-low 45 on the ground. Pitt was led on offense by true freshman quarterback Kenny Pickett, who ran for two touchdowns — including a 22-yard score run to put the Panthers up 24-7 with 2:54 to play — and threw for another in the victory.
For Miami, the defeat not only ended the Hurricanes’ perfect season, but also an FBS-best 15-game winning streak. The loss was Miami’s first against Pitt since 2014, however the ‘Canes had already clinched the Coastal Division and will meet Clemson in the ACC Championship Game this weekend. A win over the Tigers could potentially put UM back in the CFP championship hunt, and if the ‘Canes are looking for a good omen, they need look no further than their opponent in Charlotte: Last season, Pitt shocked Clemson 43-42 at Death Valley, and the Tigers went on to win the CFP title.
Stanford Outlasts Notre Dame
Notre Dame completed two 75-yard passes in a game for the first time in program history and outgained Stanford by nearly 100 yards, but it wasn’t enough as the Cardinal rode a dominant fourth quarter to a 38-20 home win over the Fighting Irish. Stanford was led in the upset by quarterback K.J. Costello, who threw for a career-high four touchdown passes, and also got 125 yards on the ground from star running back Bryce Love.
Notre Dame, meanwhile, saw 100-yard receiving efforts out of both Kevin Stephenson (three catches, 112 yards) and Equanimeous St. Brown (five catches, 111 yards), and also got 49 yards on the ground from star tailback Josh Adams, who has now run for 1,386 yards this season, third in Irish history. Notre Dame will play next during bowl season, while Stanford will face USC for the Pac-12 title this weekend.

You don’t see too many buzzer-beaters in football, but Kansas State quarterback Skylar Thompson connected with sophomore receiver Isaiah Zuber on a one-yard touchdown pass as time expired Saturday afternoon, giving the host Wildcats a 20-19 come-from-behind victory over Iowa State. The play marked K-State’s first game-winning touchdown with less than one minute remaining since Carson Coffman led the the Wildcats to a last-minute win over UCF in 2010.
With the victory, Kansas State reached the seven-win mark for the 18th time in coach Bill Snyder’s 26 seasons on the sideline in Manhattan, and also improved their Big 12 conference mark to 5-4, giving them a winning record in conference play for the seventh time in eight seasons. Iowa State, meanwhile, was led by quarterback Kyle Kempt, who completed 24-of-36 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns. The Cyclones also finished the regular season as the only FBS team without a lost fumble.
